Princess Mombi

2023. A2 size. Personal work.
Photoshop + Wacom Cintiq Studio Pro24.

Started as a dress study (FYI: Princess Mombi dress, from the movie Return to Oz, which is one of my staples in terms of inspirations and visual concepts, very weird and pretty unsettling to be a Disney movie), ended the day after as a Klimt study and homage to his Judith and Holophernes painting.
The Klimt vibe is very strong on Mombi's concept design, and I think also the whole scene when Dorothy meets her in her baroque palace, when the princess changes her current head with another, has a strong link with this Klimt's painting (the pose of the actress, the palette, the dress). I am very fond of both this movie and Klimt, so I had a lot of fun doing this.

Anyway, I never studied Klimt's way of painting that much, and still, I don't know if I got it, but I love his subtle values, with very low contrasts, the mix of graphic shapes and realism it's the work of areal genius. And now I want to try this technique also in a traditional way.

How many of you don't know this movie?
Enjoy as always!
