I finally had time to do this work floating in my mind for a very long time. My love for the '800 painting/sculpiting era is all in this painting.
I've always loved the Fallen Angel depiction by A. Cabanel, the fierce and broken glance of Lucifer always got me, and the Geef brother's Lucifer statue are exactly how I always imagined Lucifer: beautiful, strong, fierce and free.
For me Lucifer is the perfect metaphore of Self Determination, fighting against the concept of predestination. I represented him just fallen from heaven, scorned and broken yet proud and resolute, rising and breaking the chains which linked him to God's power and control. His wings are turning black in the light of dawn, horns and claws glimmering among the fiery red of his body, while the morning star shines bright above the Earth.
